Outdoor living spaces come in various shapes and dimensions. They can be a relaxing place to relax and enjoy privacy or high-energy spaces for entertaining family and friends. As we approach the summer heat, check out these ten diverse HighCraft projects to get ideas for outdoor living.
1. SWIMMING POOL PLUNGE
These playful clients from South Fort Collins wanted a variety of gorgeous yet practical outdoor living spaces that accommodate their active and social life.
Our team constructed a pool area with fountains, a rope swing, a built-in hot tub with water features that spill over, and substantial flower pots.
The adjacent patio is spacious enough to accommodate outdoor dining, sitting around the fire feature, and an enormous Chessboard.
The separate seating area offers protection against too much sunshine or irritating raindrops. It’s also a fantastic spot to relax by the fireplace, enjoy the action on the flat-screen TV, and enjoy the breathtaking sunsets or views across the lake. Learn more about this project here.
2. ROOFTOP RETREAT
At the north end of Fort Collins, a different family was looking to construct an additional kitchen without harming one of their favorite trees in their backyard. They also needed more outdoor living space to unwind and have fun.
The result was a rooftop terrace constructed above the kitchen’s addition, complete with sitting areas, a fireplace feature, and a delicious hammock.
The tree is a natural shade for the patio, a base for the hammock, and an atmosphere resembling a treehouse space.
3. PRACTICAL COVERED PATIO
Small but powerful This 180-s.f. The covered patio makes use of every square inch to the maximum.
The open-concept layout has an outdoor living area, dining area, and grilling area, including an apron that can let smoke out of the room. The ceiling fan, as well as the retractable sun shade, offer additional relaxation.
Installing the tongue-and-groove ceiling and brick pavers (above) and the half-wall of stone (below) are all meticulous attention to the smallest detail.
The grilling station has granite countertops, a Lynx propane grill, a Big Green Egg charcoal smoker, custom cabinetry, door fronts to hide the propane tank and various grilling equipment.
4. SHADED DECK SANCTUARY
Colorado is renowned for its mild climate. However, the temperatures and ultraviolet rays from our sunlight can intensify.
To keep the heat at bay on the deck, we constructed the frame from timber, with a retractable Roman sail cover, an outdoor ceiling fan, and sheer-weave sunshades to protect the views of the mountains.

5. WELCOMING FRONT VERANDA
Many customers are requesting an outdoor space larger at the front of their property, and they have good reasons for it.
Verandas with seating areas and front-entry patios make living spaces more comfortable. They also improve the curb appeal and add value to the property.
The property is in a tranquil cul-de-sac with uninterrupted private lake views.
With the addition of a considerable pergola and patio outside their homes, Our clients now have a cozy spot to sit, take a break, and enjoy the views.
This project highlights the elegance and flexibility of bare concrete, which can be used to create a warm space. Alongside the pergola’s overhead and seating, the patio also has seating and easy accessibility to the cooking area …

6. GABLED GATHERING AREA
The homeowners of this house in Old Town Fort Collins wanted to convert their backyard deck into an exclusive living space that could be used for relaxation and entertaining all year round.
They also wanted the privacy of their backyard by separating it from their neighbor’s yard, as well as more security from elements and adding some architectural design for their detached garage. View before and after pictures here.
7. WRAP-AROUND DECK
The clients in the western foothills of Fort Collins wanted a larger outdoor space to entertain guests, take in breathtaking views over the valley, and protect their dogs from rattlesnakes.
Its HighCraft Project was showcased in a Special Issue of Qualified Remodeler magazine, explicitly dedicated to the outdoor lifestyle.
