How To Create A Functional Home Office

Many people are working from home and zooming this week, and it will likely continue for a while.

If you have been making the best of a basement where your computer is propped on storage bins and a cushion under your thigh, it’s the right time to think about setting up a practical and well-organized desk area in your home.

It’s not a problem – many have been in this boat today and need more space in their home to work from home. However, if you’re forced to make a small space in your bedroom or a room that isn’t used on the top of a stairwell, now is the time to set it to prepare for the next season of working from home.

A well-organized desk isn’t only about how it looks (although that’s crucial to a peaceful working day too). It’s about function as well as comfort and efficiency. You must be able to work comfortably and quickly access what you require and not suffer an injury to your back at the end of the day!

If your desk requires freshening or you want a more relaxing and comfortable setup, here are some suggestions to do it in the afternoon.

If you don’t own a desk, build one.

Create an even surface for your desk – and think beyond the norm. You can purchase a large plank from a hardware shop and then stain or paint it. Then place it in crates. You can find a low-cost furniture piece at an estate sale, paint it, and put it on the flooring. You could transform a closet into an office. You may purchase an office desk with wheels that can be moved into a corner in case it is unused. Choose a chair that is comfortable and ergonomically designed for the long haul. Use pillows with a relaxing back and place your back against the wall if you’re standing on the floor. If you go with the standing desk, get a comfortable kitchen mat for your feet.

Make use of a stand for your monitor placed on the desk.

Be sure to have a screen for better viewing. Make sure you set it at the correct level with a suitable stand that sits on your desk. You can purchase a frame with storage beneath and use items you already have – for example, a crate or a bookcase.

Make use of small shelves.

It doesn’t matter if you install a smaller shelving device at your desk or put a shelf over the wall. You use the vertical space to store glasses, papers, notes, and other items you use daily to work.

Make use of cups, mugs, vases, and even Tin cans.

Use what you already have to store tools and other utility items like scissors, pens and thumb drives, paper clips, and more. Make your designs by wrapping recycled tin cans with rope or attractive yarn or paper. Place them on your desk to ensure everything has a place to go.

Make use of pegs for hanging things.

Use the walls around your place of work from home to put up hooks, pegs, and even a complete pegboard to hang things like headphones, tools, glasses, and memos.

Make sure you have good lighting.

Task lighting makes it less straining on your eyes throughout the day and makes it easier to find you during Zoom meetings! You can use a light that clamps on can be used for small areas.

Make storage more creative.

Utilize cute baskets and bags hanging from hooks or on the floor to keep things like printer papers, reference books, electrical cords, and electronics. Also, consider a roll-away cart to store items that can move wherever you want (great for school equipment! ).

Incorporate an element of nature.

Nature can soothe the soul. Therefore, it is a good idea to have a lush green plant or a piece of driftwood, or a jar of seashells on your desk is calming. Make sure your desk is clutter-free by utilizing the sleek modern plant stand.

Get extra cords.

One of the most significant convenience aspects of living at home is investing in more cords for your computer, monitor, and any other gadgets you require to use at work. Install them permanently at your desk using a USB hub to allow everything you need to connect. If you decide to bring it back into the workspace after a day of laying around while watching Netflix at night and you want to restart the setup quickly. Keep them tidy with clips that hold them in a neatly arranged space!

Be serious about working from your area at home if you’re performing a lot there right now. You’ll be glad you did when you’re a few months further down the road.
