Construction giant Bechtel, Westinghouse Electric Company, and the Czech Power Industry Alliance will boost nuclear construction in the Czech Republic.

The construction giant Bechtel, along with Westinghouse Electric Company and Czech Power Industry Alliance, have agreed to deploy four AP1000 nuclear reactors in Dukovany and Temelin Nuclear Power Plants in the Czech Republic.

The signing of this agreement is a significant step forward in the cooperation of all parties. The efforts of the working group will ensure that the Czech industry is fully involved in the construction of nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic as a strategic partner for the AP1000 technologies,” said Josef Perlik. Perlik is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of SIGMA group and Executive Director of the Czech Power Industry Alliance.

Our AP1000 projects greatly benefit from the localization of critical manufacturing work and services. “I expect at least 70% to go to Czech firms,” said David Durham, Energy Systems President of Westinghouse.

The partnership between CPIA and the Czech Republic will be beneficial for many generations.

Durham joined Westinghouse in 2015 after five years at GE Hitachi as Chief commercial officer.

Bechtel, the Nuclear, Security, and Environmental Business Unit of Bechtel, has been a leader in delivering cutting-edge nuclear technologies for over 70 years. Howanitz previously served as general manager for Bechtel’s business unit that supports the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration. Howanitz, a veteran Bechtel Project Manager who joined the company in 1982, has played a leadership role on a variety of projects, including fossil power stations, commercial nuclear power units, combined-cycle gas units, waste-to-energy facilities, and NASA launch complexes.

We know that successful projects involve partnering locally and maximizing the capabilities and capacity of local suppliers in order to help our partners reach their clean energy goals. We are looking forward to working together with CPIA in order to continue identifying potential local suppliers and contractors to partner with to deliver energy to the Czech Republic.
