In the course of building the Museum of the Future, different project teams utilized a variety of options from Trimble. Trimble Connect was used as the Common Data Environment (CDE), and Trimble’s SysQue was used to create the complex MEP design. Tekla Structures also proved helpful in the design of the building’s complicated structure. Robotic Total Stations were used to automate the layout on site.
“Since using BIM, we now see everything, not only steel but all stakeholders, all models — and see before that day [before construction starts], before prefabrication, to answer questions and save a lot of time,” says Ramesh of Eversendai.
The integration of Trimble solutions has helped to reduce the workload by as much as 65percent and also provided an increase of 50% in productivity and a 25% overall energy savings,

Throughout the construction phase, the team also employed laser scanning to check the conditions with their 3D models. This was a way to avoid installation problems and work that could hold up a project during the latter stages of construction.

Digital modeling was also used to aid in the creation of the panels on the outside created through Affan Innovative Structures. Each custom-designed, curved panel featured a section of Arabic script, which served as recessed glass windows that illuminated the interior. The precise-cut molds were constructed using polyurethane foam. They were then secured with epoxy and glass fiber to be dried in an oven before being coated with a final adhesion bonding made of stainless steel.
