We will now discuss the various types of refractory bricks. There are three main types of refractory uses based on the composition of refractory fire bricks. They are also used for different refractory fire bricks.

Acid Refractories

1. Ordinary Fire Bricks

  • The material is a combination of sand, crushed clay, and natural fire clay.
  • The resistance can be up to 1600.
  • It is used to line furnaces with a high-quality acid refractory.
  • Aluminum content is 20-40%, silica content is 50-75%, and fluxing material is less than 10%.

2. Silica Bricks

  • This product contains 19% silica.
  • The resistance power is 2000.
  • The product is made from quartzite, sandstone, and 2-3% lime to act as fluxes and binders.
  • It can be used for a variety of things, including acid linings for furnaces for glass production, furnaces for melting copper, walls for basic open-hearth iron furnaces, and arches.

3. Ganister Bricks

  • It is rigid, compact, and hard at temperatures up to 2100 degrees C.
  • Made from ganister rocks, which contain silica at 85%, clay at 10% and lime at 2%.

 

Basic Refractories

1. Magnesite Bricks

  • Resistant to temperatures between 1800 and 2100 degrees C.
  • As the basic lining of furnaces.
  • Made from fire clay, which contains 85% magnesium oxide and 3-5% iron oxide. Aluminum and balanced lime are also added.

2. Dolomite Bricks

  • Up to 1400 degrees C to 1600 degrees C resistance capacity
  • It is an inexpensive alternative to magnesia bricks in furnace lining. Serpentine is used to improve their strength.
  • Made from fireclay, which contains a high amount of dolomite.

3. Bauxite Bricks

  • The material is resistant to temperatures up to 1600 degrees C.
  • Made from fire clay, which contains 86% Bauxite.

Neutral Refractories

1. Chromite Bricks

  • Resistance to 2000 degrees C
  • Made of fire clay, containing iron oxide or ferrous oxide of 30%, Chrome Iron Ore of 50%, and Bauxite with a small amount of silica.

2. Carborundum

  • Resistance to 1900 degrees C
  • Use in electric heaters
  • Made of fire clay with an increased percentage of silicon carbide.
  • Natural refractory bricks are a particular type.

3. Chrome Magnesite Bricks

  • They are made from a mix of magnesite, chrome, and other metals.

4. Spinal Bricks

  • Aluminum and magnesia are mixed in equal parts to manufacture it.

5. Forsterite Bricks

  • Made from magnesium oxide, or 2 MgO siO2.
